Mother Nature at Her Best

There is no place like this. You could spend a lifetime exploring this little country and not see it all its pristine, secret places. Long known as "Mother Nature’s best kept secret," it's possible to hop from a subtropical jungle to the second largest reef on earth within a few miles. Here, you can travel discover ancient Mayan worlds, drift through underwater gardens, or just relax in a hammock.

Boasting the largest reef in the Western Hemisphere, Belize offers diving in crystal-clear azure waters, snorkeling amid vast sea life, or the chance to catch a Flats Slam (landing a tarpon, a bonefish, and a permit—all in one day). Inland adventure abounds with the exploration of excavated Mayan ruins, horseback riding, cave exploring trips and more.

Simply Spectacular

Second in size only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef, Belize's vast Barrier Reef runs for 186 miles along the coast in a ribbon from the tip of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula southward some 180 miles into the Gulf of Honduras. Over 35 species of reef-building corals thrive in its sun-drenched waters, sheltering the coastline against erosion and providing sustenance and refuge for manatees, porpoises, turtles, sharks, butterfly fish, and a bewildering array of other marine life. This living wall of coral provides for amazing fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, and scuba diving. Located inside one of Belize's three atolls is the Blue Hole, one of the most astounding dive sites anywhere on earth. Inside the Blue Hole, the water is 480 feet deep, a light-absorbing depth that gives it the famous rich deep-blue color.

Diving/Snorkeling

Our Dive Shop is a fully-equipped PADI DIVE CENTER. For those who prefer to soak up the sun while enjoying an array of marine life just below the ocean's dynamic surface, the world-renowned reefs of Belize are perfect. Snorkeling provides a simple, graceful, and effortless way to experience the phenomenal abundance of graceful manta rays, parrot fish, sea turtles and boundless schools of glimmering fish. The reduced wave activity due to the barrier reef creates unsurpassed visibility. The abundance and variety of sea life is astounding. You could spend a lifetime exploring the coral formations.

Fishing: Anglers Paradise

Every sunrise brings a thrilling opportunity for new piscatorial pursuits upon the Caribbean. For the fly angler, Belize is renowned as one of the few special places on earth where a "grand slam" on the flats-a hat trick of permit, tarpon and bonefish all in one day-is not an uncommon occurrence. From The Peninsula Club, it's just 20 minutes to the pristine uncrowded flats where bonefish bonefish, tarpon, and permit are at times so numerous that big schools are spotted from hundreds of yards.

Traveling to the deep blue water outside the endless reefs off Belize brings anglers into untapped waters that are an undiscovered world of big game fishing. Locals know the Caribbean here teems with prized wahoo, the fastest fish in the sea, and that tuna, dorado and billfish-in unknown numbers-await the intrepid angler.

Birding: 54 Species in Placencia Alone!

Belize is a mecca for both migratory and indigenous birds of all shapes, sizes, and colors. The diverse, largely undeveloped tracts of habitat within Belize translate directly to a truly remarkable representation of bird species. In all of North America, ornithologists have documented just over 800 species of birds. Belize, a country approximately the size of Massachusetts, is home to more than 540 of them; with a recorded 54 species in Placencia. Unusual birds such as the Jabiru Stork, the largest flying bird in the Western Hemisphere, with a height of 5 feet, can be found here. A multitude of toucans, parrots, macaws and motmots also make Belize an enticing destination for birding.
